Wusaki by Suehiro 240/1000 Grit Japanese Double-Sided Whetstone + Base
Description
Description
The Japanese whetstone for a complete job
The whetstone is made from Suehiro's Cerax ceramic, fired at a high temperature for maximum resistance to cracking. This sharpening accessory is both easy to use and durable. Suehiro follows a meticulous process to make its stones, including mixing the ingredients, molding, drying, firing and quality control. This care, combined with Wusaki's knife-making expertise, ensures the stone's outstanding quality.
The 240 side for blades that no longer cut
The first side of this Wusaki whetstone carries a 240 grit, ideal for knife blades that are damaged, chipped or dull. Sharpening on this grit restores the edge effectively.
The 1000 grit for regular upkeep
The second side of the stone carries a 1000 grit, perfect for finishing off the sharpening. This medium grit smooths the edge of your knives with a light touch, and for a finishing pass, it's even capable of a razor-sharp result on knives around 55 HRC in hardness.
A single, very simple way to use it
Getting the stone ready is easy: let it sit in water for 5 to 10 minutes first. This gives the stone time to take on the moisture it needs before you begin. The whetstone comes with a small Nagura stone included, essential for effective sharpening of your knives. By rubbing it against the wet stone before use, you release its abrasive particles, creating a slurry that boosts the stone's action. The Nagura stone multiplies the effectiveness of your whetstone.

An essential for maximizing your blade's cutting potential
Care & sharpening
Care & sharpening
Use
- Cut with a straight, linear motion. Twisting motions damage the cutting edge and can break the blade.
- Use a wooden cutting board. Glass or marble dull the cutting edge over time.
Cleaning
- Wash by hand with a soft sponge and mild soap, then rinse with lukewarm water. Abrasive surfaces are not suitable for the steel.
- Oil the blade from time to time with a neutral mineral oil to protect it.
Sharpening
- Don't wait until the blade is completely dull: regular maintenance on a 1000-grit whetstone keeps an excellent cutting edge without removing too much material.
- Match the whetstone's grit to the condition of the blade — coarse grit to restore a very dull edge, fine grit to polish.
